Fredrik, King of Brandengrad and de facto ruler of the whole of Riismark, found himself abandoned by the rest of his peers in the Conclave and his lands besieged on all fronts. To secure one front at least, he acknowledged and honored his family’s debt to his enemy: the Alchemist of the Nepenthe Spire. But after pushing back the Nords with the help of the Orders, the Order of the Sword refused to surrender control of the reclaimed lands. Abandoned by the Heartlands, he knows that honoring his dept to the Alchemist for another year would cripple his nation, struggling for resources as they are. So now Fredrik prepares for the Alchemist to claim his payment once more. For he knows well:
